Bagasse is a fibrous residue remaining after sugar cane stalks are crushed to extract their juice, and is currently used as a renewable resource in the manufacture of pulp and paper products and building materials. After the sugar cane is juiced, the use of the fiber waste provides a value-added product from what is generally considered a waste product. When sugar cane fiber is turned into products normally made from paper, an additional benefit is the elimination of the pollution from the normal burning of the pulp.
”By using Emerald(TM) brand Facial Tissue, you’ll be environmentally responsible without compromising in quality.” Says Lenny Blumenthal, Paradigm Group VP Global Procurement.
Sugar cane fiber is similar to any other fibrous garden waste that readily composts, and normally biodegrades within 30-90 days. “For single-use products, it provides an environmentally sustainable alternative to traditional paper disposables.” States Ralph Bianculli, CEO of Paradigm Group.
